Moventis Carrilets Turístics, a leading company in the tourist train sector, has taken a significant step towards sustainability and innovation in sightseeing transport by revealing two new fully electric trains on Tuesday, which will be operated in Cala d’Or. Moventia has thus reached a new milestone in its strategy as a group to shift towards quality and environmentally sustainable mobility within its various business divisions.

Moventis Carrilets Turístics has been the company responsible for managing the tourist trains in Cala d’Or since 2022, in addition to its business in Can Picafort and Playa de Muro, and offers the opportunity to explore the various points of interest in this charming tourist village in south-east Mallorca to both tourists and local residents.

In 2024, the company has taken a major step forward by incorporating two new fully electric plug-in trains from the Chinese manufacturer Foton. The vehicles have an 81 kW/h capacity, a motor strength that has enabled the number of passengers to be increased over previous versions. These models can carry up to 70 passengers or, in adapted vehicle mode, either 64 passengers plus two spaces for persons with disabilities or 67 passengers and one space for a person with disability. Furthermore, due to a range of up to 186 kilometres, the trains can easily complete all the daily services without needing to be recharged.

It is important to stress that these vehicles have been exclusively designed for Moventis Carrilets Turístics, meaning they offer high-end features, outstanding safety and a better user experience because they boast the traditional tourist train look. The two vehicles also have passenger monitoring cameras, as well as wide and retractable access steps that make getting on or off the vehicles extremely comfortable. The company has invested in excess of €700,000 to acquire these vehicles.

The unveiling ceremony took place on Tuesday at the port in Cala d’Or and was attended by Miquel Martí, Chairman of Moventia, as well as other leading authorities from the island, such as Rafael Batle, Councillor for Tourism, Beaches and Entertainment Activities of Cala d’Or; Mateu Ferrer, Manager of the Balearic Energy Institute (IBE); and Rafael Roig, Chairman of the Balearic Transport Business Federation (FEBT), among others.

In his speech, Miquel Martí stressed that “At Moventia, we are committed to environmental sustainability and to offering a quality mobility service capable of meeting the needs of everyone who chooses us. For that reason, these new electric tourist trains are a clear example of our commitment in that regard and also of our ties and commitment to the island of Mallorca, where, through Moventis, our collective mobility division has been operating since 2021, as well as via urban transport and discretionary transport services.”

Following the presentation, attendees at the event were able to enjoy a trip on one of the new vehicles before a short cocktail reception at the port in Cala d’Or.
