Calvià Town Hall was the location chosen to present the new intercity service for the western region of Mallorca this morning. The President of the Regional Government of the Balearic Islands, Francina Armengol, and the Chairman of Moventia (the bus route operator), Miquel Martí, were accompanied by the Regional Councillor for Mobility and Housing, Marc Pons, the Managing Director of Movilitat, Jaume Mateu, and the Mayor of Calvià, Alfonso Rodríguez.

A number of the improvements to be offered by the service were highlighted during the course of the presentation, such as the reduced journey times on some lines, including the routes connecting the regional capital – Palma – with Port de Andratx and Palma with Peguera. The addition of new routes was also highlighted, such as the one connecting Santa Ponça, Andratx and Valldemossa.

In turn, Francina Armengol said “a very important qualitative and quantitative leap was necessary to guarantee our citizens’ mobility rights”. In the same regard, Marc Pons added that this new service “represents a terrestrial mobility model change in Mallorca”. Miquel Martí expressed satisfaction with being able to offer the new service on the island, where the company already operates the Emilio Seco discretionary services and four tourist trains.

A total of 55 buses (50 compressed natural gas and 5 electric hybrid) will be used to provide the service. Furthermore, a gas refuelling station will be installed in the municipality of Calvià as well as two electric charging stations. A number of stops will also be improved while other new ones will be added.
