Josep Carreras Foundation raises awareness about leukaemia and donating bone marrow among Moventia employees
26 February 2025
Representatives from the non-profit organisation gave employees some important information about oncohaematological diseases and bone marrow donation.

A delegation from the Josep Carreras Foundation against Leukaemia, a private non-profit organisation that exists to combat leukaemia, came to the Moventia headquarters on 21 February. Representatives from the foundation visited the company to tell Moventia employees about the numerous oncohaematological diseases affecting a large part of the population today and the processes available for donating bone marrow.

During the talk, which was introduced by Sílvia Martí, Vice-President of Corporate Affairs and Internal Communication of Moventia, Núria Marieges, Institutional Coordinator of the Spanish Register of Bone Marrow Donors (REDMO) at the Josep Carreras Foundation, Regina Díez and Anna Palomo, Corporate Partnerships Manager and Project Manager at the foundation, respectively, they raised awareness about the importance of donating bone marrow for saving the lives of people with serious diseases, such as leukaemia and other oncohaematological disorders.

The foundation representatives stressed that a bone marrow transplant is often the last hope for many patients who cannot find a compatible donor within their family. They also told Moventia employees that the Spanish Register of Bone Marrow Donors (REDMO), which is managed by the foundation, is responsible in Spain for coordinating the search for compatible donors both nationwide and internationally, and that its work is essential to facilitating access to transplants and improving the chances of survival for those who need them.

Held in the Agora Hall, a large number of company employees attended the event either in person or from other company premises via a streaming feed. Their involvement highlights the collective commitment from the company to social development and supporting vulnerable groups.

In June 2024, Moventia and the Josep Carreras Foundation against Leukaemia signed a renewal of the partnership agreement between them that was first signed in 2023. By signing this renewal, the mobility company has reaffirmed its commitment to the Together, we move for oncohaematology patients project, the purpose of which is to meet part of the travel costs incurred by bone marrow donors.

In 2023, Moventia paid for the travel costs of 272 bone marrow donors. The foundation coordinated almost 400 bone marrow donations, which is a 24% increase on 2022. Thanks to these efforts, 947 patients from around the world received another chance at life.

When signing the agreement renewal, Sílvia Martí, Vice-President of Corporate Affairs and Internal Communication of Moventia, said “Maintaining our relationship and agreement with the Josep Carreras Foundation, an organisation that has a long history in the fight against leukaemia and oncohaematological diseases through all sorts of projects since 1988, is a milestone that we are hugely proud of as a company”. “The commitment from Moventia to the society that surrounds us is inherent, which is why we are once again reaffirming our commitment to the foundation and joining the unstoppable fight against leukaemia”, she added.
