The new Girona Bus Station entered service on 5 May. This new station was opened after a year of work, which began in the first week of April last year. In the words of the Infrastructure and Mobility Secretary of the Regional Government of Catalonia, Ricard Font, the new infrastructure is the most powerful in the country alongside the one being built in the La Sagrera district of Barcelona.
The station covers an area of 14,657 square metres, which include the platforms (access hall and central hall), the waiting room (with AC and soundproofed against noise from the platforms), the hall, the roads used by buses, the platforms and the ticket booths. There will be 24 platforms for regular services and three for use by the station internally. There will also be ten ticket booths for operators and one for the Regional Mobility Authority of Girona (ATM) and Girocleta.
At present, the station has eight operators with regular national and international routes, where Moventis operates through Sarfa and Ouibus.
The new station will open every day of the year from 05:45 to 23:00.
Among others, the opening ceremony was attended by the President of the Regional Government of Catalonia, Carles Puigdemont, and on behalf of Moventia by Josep Mª Martí, Vice-President of the company, and Enrique Gimeno, Manager of Sarfa.
