The company has strengthened its commitment to sustainability, innovation and efficiency through attendance by Josep Maria Balaguer, Moventia Facility Manager, at the IX National Congress of Municipal Engineering (CIM2025) that was recently held and organised by the Institute for Construction Technology of Catalonia (ITeC). In his talk, Josep Maria Balaguer highlighted the use of reclaimed water as a sustainable solution for operations by the group.

The congress focused on engineering challenges and urban management, while highlighting the importance of innovative solutions capable of building more sustainable and resilient cities.

In his talk, the expert explained why the company is so interested in using reclaimed water, emphasising the need to anticipate water shortage and the opportunity to optimise water resources at such installations as wash tunnels and logistics centres. In this context, he explained how the initiative forms part of the group’s sustainability strategy aimed at reducing the environmental footprint and shifting towards a circular economy model in line with the Sustainable Development Goals.

As an example of the impact from this measure, Josep Maria Balaguer presented the results obtained at the logistics centre in Sabadell (Barcelona), where drinking water consumption has been entirely replaced by reclaimed water for an annual saving of 8,268 m³, equal to the consumption of 193 people or the volume of 3.3 Olympic swimming pools. He also explained how water quality and safety is guaranteed through regular checks, filters and internal protocols that ensure safe and efficient use for installations and personnel.

Finally, Josep Maria Balaguer concluded his talk by mentioning the next steps planned by the company, which include bringing reclaimed water to more installations as well as collaboration with authorities and water utilities to expand connectivity for this kind of networks. The goal is to consolidate this model as an operational standard at all bases where it is a viable option, demonstrating that innovation, efficiency and sustainability can be driven forward together. Attendance by Moventis at CIM2025 underlined a commitment to responsible resource management, sustainable innovation and the transformation of mobility and urban infrastructure towards a more efficient and environmentally friendly future.
