The Honorary Chairman of Moventia, Miquel Martí Escursell, has been recognised with the Creu de Sant Jordi 2026, one of the highest distinctions awarded by the Regional Government of Catalonia.
The award ceremony, which took place at the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya (MNAC) in Barcelona, was presided over by Salvador Illa, President of the Regional Government of Catalonia, and attended by Sònia Hernández, Regional Councillor for Culture.
During his speech, President of the Government Salvador Illa congratulated all the recipients of the Creu de Sant Jordi 2026, saying that “the example you set fills us with pride and, above all, gives us something priceless: confidence in our future”.
In turn, the Regional Councillor for Culture, Sònia Hernández, stressed that the event is “a collective gesture of gratitude” towards those who have helped to build a “more prosperous, fairer and more cohesive” Catalonia.
Recognition for a career in the field of mobility
The Creu de Sant Jordi recognises the career of Miquel Martí Escursell and his efforts to promote, develop and modernise the mobility and public transport sector in Catalonia over the last few decades at the head of Moventia, as well as his implementation of the Barcelona tram design.
For the organisers, this recognition is a reason to be proud and highlights his role in evolving the sector and consolidating a transport model aimed at serving people and the region. His career is also a benchmark within Moventia as a company due to his vision and leadership, which have contributed to laying the path that the multinational company continues to follow today.
The Creu de Sant Jordi
On this occasion, the Regional Government of Catalonia presented this award to 20 individuals and 10 entities for their outstanding contribution to the country in the fields of civic action, cultural action and the defence of Catalan identity. Created in 1981, the Creu de Sant Jordi is one of the highest distinctions awarded by the Regional Government of Catalonia and it recognises those individuals and entities that have provided outstanding service to the country in the fields of civic action, cultural action or the defence of its identity.
The event, which took place in the Oval Hall of the MNAC, also included a number of musical performances to enhance the cultural and formal nature of the ceremony.
